The Lifecycle of Solid Hardwood Flooring


You're able to look at your stunning solid hardwood flooring daily. Perhaps you have wondered what happens before the floors are installed? There's a large amount of planning and work that goes on behind the scenes to turn trees to hardwood floors. Here's a brief summary of that process.

From The Forest

These days, the huge majority of timber comes from carefully managed forests. Various businesses harvest timber in various ways, however, the four chief approaches are choice, group selection, shelter timber, or clear-cutting. After the trees are trimmed, specific equipment is used to recover the logs out of the woods. It's subsequently loaded onto transport trucks and brought to the sawmill to start production.

Milling and Grading

After the logs arrive at the sawmill, they are de-barked. The device grips either end of the spins and log it while a grinding tool removes the bark from all sides. Next, they move through a scanner which will select the very best side for the first clip, whichever are going to be able to produce the most lumber, then the entire log will be cut into long pieces. These slices are then rated. The grade of the wood will determine its next step. Just certain, higher ranges are used for hardwood floors.

Off to the Flooring Mill

Now that the timber has been separated by grade and species, it is sent off to the floor mill. Once there, the timber needs to be totally dried out. This may be via air drying or in a kiln that is kept between 100 and 108 degrees Fahrenheit. When the bits are dried and cooled, they are ready to send for cuttingedge. As the boards are trimmed, graders sort the boards by grade and bundle them to be sent off to distributors to be marketed and installed in their new homes.
